The establishment of the College of Biomedical Engineering and Bioengineering in 2025 marks a significant milestone for the field in Portugal. Following the conclusion of the electoral process on February 8, 2025 - which resulted in the re-election of Eng. Fernando Almeida Santos as President - the college also held its first-ever election for national representatives.

“It is a tremendous honor to be part of the elected team for the 2025-2028 term and to witness this historic moment,” declares Hugo Plácido da Silva. He adds, “Professional public associations, such as Ordem dos Engenheiros, play a crucial role in advancing and elevating our profession. This position represents another opportunity to contribute to the growth of Biomedical Engineering and Bioengineering at scientific, professional, and societal levels. Moreover, I believe this outcome further reinforces the Telecommunications Institute’s leadership in information and communication technologies applied to health, highlighting the breadth of its mission.”
