Saúl Carvalho, a master's student in Electrical Engineering at the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão (ESTG) of the Polytechnic of Leiria, emerged as a winner of the Young Scientist Award. This prestigious recognition, granted by the International Radio Science Union (URSI), was presented at the 4th URSI Atlantic Radio Science Meeting (AT-RASC) held in Gran Canaria, Spain.

Carvalho's award-winning article, titled "Assessing the Feasibility of Metallic-type FDM 3D Printed Antennas at K-band," is an innovative study showcasing the potential of 3D printing techniques for developing high-performance antennas. This research was conducted as part of the INOV.AM project – Innovation in Additive Manufacturing and Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) of Leiria. The work was a collaborative effort with fellow master's student Samuel Heleno, under the guidance of ESTG professors and IT researchers João Ricardo Reis and Rafael Caldeirinha.

Reflecting on his experience, Saúl Carvalho said, "Attending AT-RASC was an extraordinary experience, where I had the chance to explore multiple fields within radio science and engage with many brilliant minds in these areas of expertise. It was equally rewarding to connect with fellow researchers from around the world and from my home country, Portugal, representing various universities and institutions."

The Young Scientist Award, granted by URSI and its Portuguese Committee, recognizes the excellence and impact of young researchers' contributions to the field of radio science.
