Today (19-07-2022) is taking place the official inauguration of the first Free Technological Zone in Portugal - ZLT Infante D. Henrique. It follows the publication of the Official Regulation for the creation and governance of ZLTs. The model was integrated into the Action Plan for the Digital Transition in 2020.
Technological Free Zones (ZLT) consist of physical environments, geographically located in a real or quasi-real environment, used for testing and experimentation. They provide a "safe space" in which companies and Academy can test innovative products, services, business models and delivery mechanisms without immediately incurring all the normal regulatory consequences related to the activity in question. This will favor acceleration of technology development.
This platform included in its planning, some process, technologies, and participation of Daniel Poças and Nuno Borges from IT in Aveiro.
ZLT Infante D. Henrique is the first Free Technological Zone to materialize in Portugal, with recognition from the Government, although other proposals have already been presented to ANI. The initiative is from the Portuguese Navy and will test unmanned security and defense systems and other technologies in the subsurface, surface (land and wet), and air environments.
