I am happy to say that part of my job is actually to strengthen the collaboration between Altran and IT (and the University of Aveiro). (see more)







In 2008, after completing my MsC dissertation in network simulation and modeling (Professors António Nogueira and Paulo Salvador) at the University of Aveiro, I decided to acquire experience as a researcher at IT Aveiro. With Professor Rui Aguiar, I had the chance to be involved in and contribute to the highly ambitious 4WARD Project: the massive European flagship effort for designing the “Future Internet”. Such opportunity both expanded my scientific comprehension of current model’s limitations and of novel concepts (e.g. generic paths, network virtualization or cloud), and enabled to learn from outstanding European and national researchers. This enriching experience motivated the pursuit of a Ph.D as part of the MAP-Tele Doctoral programme, which allowed me to learn from excellent Professors from the three involved universities (i.e. Porto, Minho and Aveiro). With IT Aveiro as the hosting institution and Professor Rui Aguiar as my supervisor, my research activities focused the definition of mobility solutions adapted to novel communication models and scenarios resulting from the dominance of video traffic. In 2010, I successfully applied to a doctoral fellowship from FCT, which enabled the progress of my work. The developed research impacted the support of multicast mobility in emerging distributed mobility management environments. Once again, I contributed to European research activities (MEDIEVAL Project), being responsible for leading research tasks, deliverables and a technological demonstrator at the project’s final review. Such work led to multiple international publications, as well as contribution to standardization activities within IETF WGs (DMM, MULTIMOB, and PIM). After completing the Ph.D Thesis, I embraced a new challenge at Altran – first in France, and later in Portugal. Since April 2015, I have been proposing and leading Telecom R&D projects, addressing networking technologies which will be part of 5G networks (e.g. SDN, NFV or MEC), and the possibilities they unlock towards the support of advanced multimedia services. I am happy to say that part of my job is actually to strengthen the collaboration between Altran and IT (and the University of Aveiro). I thank IT – and everyone I came across there - for how significantly and positively it has impacted my career.

As software developer at CERN, I am responsible for the vacuum controls section of all particle accelerators, including the famous LHC (Large Hadron Collider).







Originally from Brazil, I moved to Portugal in the end of 2008 to pursue a PhD. After some months of research in University of Coimbra, I decided to move to Aveiro for new challenges involving the telecommunication area. In the beginning of 2009 I started to work as a member of IT and at the same time, pursuing my PhD in Computer Engineering.

The research was supervised by Professor Rui Aguiar and Professor Diogo Gomes, both from the University of Aveiro. As a member of IT, I joined the Atnog (Advanced Telecommunications and Networks Group) and had the opportunity to work with close cooperation with Altice Labs (formerly PTIN) for R&D along the years.

My PhD research focused in the areas of context-aware, social computing and CSCW.

During almost 8 years as a researcher there, I had the chance to work in the amazing environment of European projects, working with different companies and subjects ranging from pervasive computing to big data analytics.

After concluding my PhD, I enjoyed the experience of FP7 and H2020 projects and continued my collaboration with IT Aveiro and Altice Labs. In May of 2017, I accepted the big challenge of working at CERN, thus moving to another country and learning a new language.

As software developer at CERN, I am responsible for the vacuum controls section of all particle accelerators, including the famous LHC (Large Hadron Collider). These tasks include development of softwares to manage and monitoring all vacuum devices in the tunnels.

Thanks to IT, I had excellent opportunities to gain experience and also extend my knowledge. Every time I get a chance, I go to Portugal to visit my friends in Aveiro and IT.
