AdvayaTech is a newborn spin-off born from Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) labs and CICECO - Aveiro Institute of Materials (learn more), at the University of Aveiro.

Building on their expertise in photonic technologies and material science, AdvayaTech leverages years of academic research and development to create advanced security systems, transforming groundbreaking scientific discoveries into practical, industry-leading applications.

The innovation combines transparent luminescent inks with QR codes to encode multiple light signals in a single point of reading, enabling stronger product authentication, enhanced traceability, and improved anti-counterfeiting capabilities across global supply chains.

This technology is protected by patents granted in Portugal and the United States and represents over two decades of interdisciplinary work in photonics, materials science, and optical communications.

Developed by researchers Maria Rute André, Luis Carlos (CICECO/Dept. of Physics), Paulo André (IT/IST), and João Ramalho (IT/UA), the solution can be discreetly integrated into existing packaging without compromising design or sustainability, a clear advantage for sectors such as pharmaceuticals, food, and luxury goods.
