Abstract
New intelligent systems have been developed recently in order to improve the quality of match analysis. These systems base their analysis on the tactical behavior of the teams. Nevertheless, all innovative methods need some updates to increase their potential in the practical implications. Thus, the main goal of this work is to propose an update of the team’s centroid metric, considering all players of the team, as well as considering the ball position. Furthermore, it aims to analyze the relationship between opponent teams’ centroids. One 11-a-sided soccer match was analyzed in order to apply the new centroid algorithm. The main results showed strong evidence of the positive relation between teams’ centroids over time in 𝑥-axis (𝑟𝑠= 0.781) and 𝑦-axis (𝑟𝑠= 0.707). This study confirmed previous works that analyzed the positive and strong relationship between teams’ centroids. Furthermore, it was possible to prove the pertinence of the new tactical metric update and its relevance for increasing the information to practical applications during the match.
