A numerical procedure for the accurate optimization of a corrugation-pitch-modulated (CPM) distributed-coupling-coefficient (DCC) distributed-feedback (DFB) laser structure is described. The optimization criteria regard the main figures of merit concerning the laser single longitudinal mode operation: the normalized mode selectivity S and the flatness F. The normalized threshold gain alfath is also assessed. A step-by-step description of the numerical method, based in matrix techniques, is presented.
S=2.18 and F=0.017, with alfathL=1.42 are achieved for the optimized CPM-DCC-DFB laser structure, which strongly improves the performance reported elsewhere relative to optima designs for other modified DFB structures.
