Abstract
In this paper, we first introduce a Frequency Selective (FS) Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) framework for macro-cells in a realistic urban environment. Next, MIMO configuration characteristics are investigated in order to maximize capacity, mainly the number of antennas and inter-antenna spacing. Channel and capacity simulation results are presented for the city of Lisbon, Portugal, using different antenna configurations. The results suggest optimized MIMO configurations, considering the antenna array size limitations, at the Mobile Station (MS) side.
