Abstract
Biometric identification is an active research topic,
providing large-scale modern security control
procedures for accurate determination of a person’s
identity. This paper describes a biometric recognition
system, where verification and identification tasks can
be performed using palmprint as the biometric feature
to analyze. Palmprints are automatically extracted
from each sample hand image and are then processed
using 2D Gabor filters for texture feature extraction.
Finally, the Hamming distance is used to match the
sample palmprints with those stored in the system
database. The achieved results confirm that this
approach can be used for applications requiring high
security levels.
