Abstract
This paper describes a command-based robust speech recognition system for the Portuguese language. The system is speaker independent, robust to noise and operates in real-time in an embedded hardware platform. The paper addresses the description of a European Portuguese database collected specifically for the command-based recognition task, the training of the acoustic models, a new noise-robust front-end and the recognizer’s confidence measure. Performance tests show that improvements of the recognition rate are achieved using triphone models rather than whole-word models.
