Abstract
The project FUTON, which stands for “Fibre Optic Networks for Distributed, Extendible Heterogeneous Radio Architectures and Service Provisioning”, aims to design a fibre based infrastructure for transparently interconnecting multiple remote antennas to a central location, exploiting the merits of the joint processing of radio signals. This paper presents an overview of the main objectives and concept of the FUTON project, with emphasis on the topologies used for the optical fibre plant.
