Abstract
In this paper, a tag coding technique is presented based on polarization diversity and the magnitude variation of the radar cross section (RCS) of a single resonator/dipole operating at 5.8 GHz. Two parameters are controlled: the gap (g) between the two parallel legs of the dipole and the polarization relative to the incident field. A total of four distinct states can be achieved using a single resonator. The tags were fabricated and experimentally measured at 5.8 GHz. A spatial density of 1.412 bits/cm2 was achieved with this coding approach, which is quite promising.
