Abstract
The integration of vast amounts of renewables into the power generation mix is paramount for the green transition. These intermittent resources bring promise of a cleaner and less expensive generation portfolio. Yet, this comes with a cost, not only in terms of the required investments but also due to the planning and operational complexity that it brings. With this regard, optimal power flow (OPF) studies have been a key tool to efficiently solve the steady-state operation of AC interconnected power systems. This optimization task was originally solved via classic numerical methods, but over the past few years, metaheuristic methods have gained prominence due their ability to better manage high-dimensional, non-linear, and multimodal problems. Following this trend, this work proposes a modified Harris Hawks Optimization (mHHO) algorithm to solve the classic EEE-30 bus system OPF problem, and the results yielded improved results.
