Abstract
This work evaluates the use of multiple capacitive sensors to provide layer-wise imaging results for in-situ quality control during powder bed fusion additive manufacturing. This new probe is capable of detecting different surface features produced by laser powder bed fusion with stainless steel 316. A probe, with a measurement accuracy better than 1 fF, an update rate of 37 ms, and 12 sensors distributed in a linear arrangement with a distance of 0.4 mm between them, allows for imaging while performing single pass scans.
