Abstract
This paper presents an analysis of magnetic couplers for dynamic IPT EV charging systems. Long and segmented pads configurations on the primary-side are analysed for dynamic IPT applications. Also pads with ferrite cores, or coreless pads with an intermediate coil are discussed. Ferrite designs allow higher power transfer due to the high permeability of ferrite cores but increase the system cost. Using coreless structures ensure lower costs, and the use of the intermediate coil will allow to compensate for the lack of ferrite cores. The studied designs are modelled and simulated in a 3D Finite Element Method (FEM) software.
