Abstract
Light field imaging is emerging as an prominent technology in the image and video processing area with a wide range of applications from the media to the industry and medical fields. However, the
huge amount of data generated by the cameras in this type of technology can render the use of such technology impractical. This work presents an attempt to use some of the most recent codecs
for light fields in such a way that the uncompressed image shows no human perceivable difference with the original one, making those lossy codecs usable in the context of medical imaging acquisition and compression. Limited subjective evaluation of the codecs is performed to assess at which bitrate the codecs can be considered visually lossless. The results are compared with a reference lossless light field codec and the PSNR-Y are measured for each obtained output.
