Abstract
In this communications the state-of-the-art of organic photovoltaic cells will be addressed. The molecular design of organic active materials will be explained and most efficient materials will be presented. In addition, strategies related with device architectures, insertion of interlayers as charge transport layers, the nanostructuring of the organic layer and the use of complementary materials will be presented. Future directions for the synthesis of improved materials and device fabrication will be discussed.
