Abstract
Two kinds of bulk-heterojunction OPV cells were fabricated using F8T2 or pBTTT together with PTB7 as electron donor polymers mixed with PC61BM as the fullerene acceptor. Both F8T2 and pBTTT have complementary properties regarding PTB7, such as the absorption, which results in a wider spectrum for the ternary systems and thus represents an approach to improve photon absorption within the cell.
With F8T2, as the second donor, we demonstrate a 25% efficiency increase over the control devices. Interestingly, the active blends of such ternary systems show large phase separation. With pBTTT we achieved an efficiency increase of 18% over the binary/control cells for a certain blend composition. The causes of such improvements will be discussed and related with morphology studies [1,2].
