Abstract
Abstract This paper presents an energy monitoring
platform for the home and industrial environments. The solution
is based on industrial equipment such as PLCs, power
measurement boards and I/O modules for load control.
Additionally, the platform includes a Raspberry Pi–based Web
component, where the measurement data is stored in a MySQL
database and made available through the Web. The platform
serves as an educational tool for Electrical Engineering students.
Students can learn about hardware and software for energy
consumption acquisition and measurement, as well as Web
data-base communication, storage and browsing. They can
further compare the behavior of different loads, in particular
motors, projectors, heaters and lamps.
