Abstract
Spatial division multiplexing (SDM) systems are essential to overcome the increasing demand for higher bandwidth data services. Nevertheless, SDM employment is challenging and complex impairments need to be addressed (e.g., crosstalk and nonlinearities). Multi-input multi-output (MIMO) equalization and complex digital signal processing (DSP) can be used to compensate these impairments. Nonetheless, with an associated increase in the computational complexity. Optical compensation through the use of spatial light modulator (SLM) and computer generated holograms (CGH) to perform channel compensation can be expected to relax the DSP equalization requirements. In this study, the concept of applying spatial light modulation techniques to optimize transmission in SDM systems is presented.
