Abstract
The use of selective charge extraction/blocking layers has allowed significant improvements of bulk heterojunction organic solar cells performance. We have been investigating the use of a phenantroline derivative, BPhen, as electron-extraction layer and found that it leads to improvements of power conversion efficiencies, for some polymers, in particular when LiF/Al low workfunction electrodes as used. In addition, we found that the deposition of BPhen by thermal evaporation over the polymer:PCBM films leads, in general, to nanostructured films, as shown by AFM analysis, with rather tall motives in comparison to the average thickness. In this communication we present results of efficiency and BPhen films morphology for various polymers and different surface PCBM contents.
