Abstract
One of the most usual implementation errors that occur when deploying radio access base-stations for mobile networks is to erroneously swap the antenna cables of two sectors, creating a crossed sector scenario. When this happens, the two swapped sectors still provide radio coverage, but not in the desired cell area. Hence, this paper proposes an enhanced approach for crossed sector detection, taking into account ra- dio signal strength measurements, network topology, and also antennas’ radiation pattern and orientation. The algorithm was applied to a live 2nd Generation (2G)/3rd Generation (3G)/4th Generation (4G) mobile network, for accuracy and validation purposes. Large-scale analysis was set in the UK and Portugal areas, and 16 crossed sectors were detected within a universe of 883 sites.
