Abstract
The football analysis has been improving in the last few years based on tracking systems to retrieve the players’ position in the field. The use of these techniques paved the way toward novel metrics to measure and analyze player’s behavior. From the individual point of view to the collective behavior, a considerable amount of metrics may be used to provide valuable information to coaches and sports analysts that may act upon those to improve the team’s performance. In spite of these findings, the aim of this study is to survey and dis-cuss the main evaluation metrics used so far in the football context. A first step will be to analyze the individual metrics to inspect each singular player’s performance. Afterwards, a set of metrics that can measure the individual contribution of each player to the collective will be stated. At last, this paper will conclude the survey by present-ing the metrics that describe the collective behavior.
