Abstract
Selectivity in the frequency and high peak-to-average power
ratio (PAPR) of adopted signal modulations are the main problems faced
on the design of broadband wireless systems with high power efficiency.
Single-carrier with frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE) methods
upon iterative-block decision feedback equalization (IB-DFE) are par-
ticularly effective on dealing with the severe distortion of multipath
time dispersive channels, while magnitude modulation (MM) techniques
can reduce significantly the PAPR of SC signals. Both techniques
have been recently combined and their performance analyzed for the
uncoded transmission case. In this paper we extend those studies to
transmissions employing error control coding, and it is shown that for
coded transmissions considerable power efficient gains can be obtained
even when using conventional IB-DFE receivers that don’t take in account distortion introduced by MM techniques.
