Abstract
This work has the goal to develop a prediction model of propagation of the signal for a specific indoor scenario, tunnels. This model, identified as Prediction of Signal Propagation in Tunnels (PSPT), is integrated in another indoor/outdoor model designated by Lisbon University Institute (LUI). The PSPT model considers the frequency range 900 MHz to 3.5 GHz for Wi-Fi, GSM, UMTS, WiMAX and LTE.
The PSPT model was calibrated according to the results obtained with the planning tool. We analyzed several study cases with real implementation. In addition to the validation through the planning tool, the PSPT model was also validated and verified for these technologies, considering experimental tests. These have had a decisive contribution to the added value that this model can take into the world of mobile communications. Through these tests it was verified that the PSPT model behaves consistently and reliably for tunnels with various scenarios, obtaining similar results to those obtained experimentally.
The PSPT propagation model presents the advantage of simplicity of expression for the results of the path attenuation, which is very interesting to integrate a planning tool that claims to be general and efficient. On the other hand, a model that is calibrated with experimental results is an excellent tool for operators and manufacturers of telecommunications equipment, and other companies operating in the area of engineering and systems implementation, since the results are close to those obtained with site surveys .
