Abstract
For localization systems low power consumption and resolution are two main points to consider when choosing a technology, technique and algorithms for localization purposes. A correct development of a communication protocol is a crucial issue to have in consideration for global performance of the system. This paper briefly describes a low power localization protocol using ZigBee technology which provides localization based on proximity, detection by Highest Received Signal Strength Indication (HiRSSI) and the base for more complex algorithms such as triangulation and fingerprinting based. This paper also presents the global architecture of the system describing the developed application which provides the control of two localization modes, HiRSSI and neural network based. On our results we achieved batteries life time from several months to few years with a battery of 650mAH and resolution in order of 2,5m using a neural network.
