The main goal regarding of this paper is to investigate the performance enhancement of using MIMO in 4th generations technologies, WiMAX e LTE. Through theoretical studies, it has been concluded that some of the main impacts for using MIMO are those, increasing network coverage and the bit rate of the data transfer. To achieve the goals, a partnership has been set with the company Alcatel-Lucent, which works in 4th generation networks in different countries. Drive tests were performed on those networks, by the Alcatel-Lucent team, collecting the field measures. With those measures, was performed some comparative analysis of using different MIMO techniques, with the main of draw conclusions on the impact of using MIMO.
