This paper presents a power drive circuit for electric vehicles with a buck-boost power converter. The buck-boost converter with a dedicated current control allows achieving an electronic gear for DC motors. With this topology is possible to allow a torque-speed profile that resembles the obtained by a geared manual one but in a continuous manner, meaning that the power value is limited at high speeds but the torque is raised during starting and climbing.
