Abstract
The confinement of the detection region is one of the major current challenges of UHF RFID systems. This paper presents a novel method to confine the interrogation zone of UHF RFID systems that can be easily used with the existing commercial readers and tags. The proposed solution is based on an all-planar wire screen that blocks the radiation field (i.e., the far-field), obtaining in this simple manner a spatially wellconfined detection region formed mainly by the near-field of the antenna.
