Abstract
Soliton amplification in doped fiber amplifiers is usually studied by adopting the parabolic-gain profile or the Lorentzian profile. To overcome the limitations of such approximations we present a new numerical method to analyze the amplification of wavelength-division-multiplexed solitons in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers by taking into account the actual gain profile based on experimental cross sections. The influence of amplified spontaneous emission noise on the amplifier’s gain characteristic is also considered.
