Project: Electromagnetic bandgap antennas and components for broadband communications

Acronym: EBGCOM
Main Objective:
Electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) structures are microwave or millimetre-wavescaled counterparts of photonic crystals. These devices are one-, two-, or three-dimensional periodic structures in which propagation of electromagnetic waves is not allowed in some frequency bands or directions. This property can yield microwave devices with new interesting characteristics with direct applications in communication systems, in particular, wireless communications. The main objective of this project is to design, develop and implement novel RF/microwave components based on the EBG technology that find applications in broadband communications.
