Project: Integration Strategies for IP over WDM Networks

Acronym: IP over WDM
Main Objective:
The main objectives of this project are:
-To evaluate different transport network alternative approaches namely: IP/SDH/WDM, IP/WDM and IP/OTN. These configurations will be evaluated in terms of cost effectiveness, management facility, reconfigurability, scalability, QoS performance, and reliability;
-To identify fast and efficient survivability schemes for IP/WDM and IP/OTN networks;
-To investigate the impact of different signalling schemes on the restoration time of IP over WDM networks and how these signalling schemes fit into the GMPLS and ASON control plane;
-To identify solutions to provide service differentiation on IP optical networking;
-To define experiments to assess the Project results and design a test-bed for future evaluation.

To accomplish theses objectives the project is organized in four tasks: Task 1- Evaluation of backbone architecture for IP optical networking; Task 2- Survibability schemes; Task 3- Differentiated QoS; Task 4-Test-bed design.
