Project: Multiple Access for Wireless and Ad-Hoc Networks

Acronym: MA-LAN
Main Objective:
Even though the IEEE 802.11 family of wireless LANs has been in use for a long time, some aspects of the operation of their basic channel access mechanisms, CSMA and RTS-CTS, are nonetheless not well enough understood, namely the interaction between acknowledgment and data packets in topologies with interfering cells. This project continues the studies performed so far at IT on this topic, in particular with the objective of understanding the fundamental limitations to the throughput obtained in typical environments, both with application to wireless LANs and to ad-hoc networks.
