| PROJECT: | Smart Automated Framework for Enhanced Road safety of Vulnerable Road Users | |||||
| ACRONYM: | SAFER-VRU | |||||
| MAIN OBJECTIVE: | SAFER-VRU aims to improve the safety of Vulnerable Road Users (VRUs) by integrating cooperative, connected, and automated mobility (CCAM), autonomous frameworks, multi-access edge computing (MEC), and multi-technology communications, supporting the EU’s goal of reducing road fatalities toward zero by 2050. Unlike current systems, which rely on isolated sensing and lack integrated multi-technology communications, SAFER-VRU will develop a functional end-to-end V2X service embedded in smart city infrastructure. This service will deliver user-centric safety notifications with improved latency and reliability, demonstrated through a prototype and pilot trials in the Aveiro Tech City Living Lab (ATCLL). The project will validate this technology’s practicality with real users, focusing on urban use cases. | |||||
