Project: Techniques and Algorithms for Raman Multi-Pump Allocation

Acronym: ARPA
Main Objective:
The project focuses on the feasibility to design low cost, flat gain, as high spectral wide fiber Raman amplifiers. In the first year of work, we will develop a first version of an algorithm that enables the optimization of wavelength allocation and output power of the pump lasers. This task will be finished during the second year of the project, where a precise and robust allocation algorithm will be presented.
In the second year we will produce two RFA prototypes, based in resonant Bragg cavities and low cost pump lasers, taking into account the previously derived optimization results. Such RFA prototypes will be capable of amplification over at least two spectral windows (S,C,L). The main goal of the second year is to validate the developed prototypes (and algorithm) in a high debit optical network though the prototypes overall performance and capacities. The validation tests will occur using a burst signal and in an optical recirculating loop to access the cascability performance
