Acronym: PLANE |
Main Objective: Reinforce research, technological development and innovation Synthesis: The PLANE project intends to provide a solution to a set of needs derived from the increasing demand for smallsats, following an increase of the satellite-based services on LEO orbits, as satellite communications and image-based intelligence. This demand, brings a new horizon of opportunities and consequent advances on the development and technology, as for new low-cost approaches and infrastructures. These opportunities are also related to the positioning of solutions provision that could enable the exploration of the new technology advancements observed in other industries, as the usage of COTS components with high performance and followed by a significant miniaturization. This could also act as enabler for new and diverse designs and developments approaches. The standardization of the platforms and systems could bring higher degrees of interoperability which when combined with production agile processes will permit a significant reduction of the time-to-flight of the systems and ultimately of the integrated satellite. The PLANE project focus is related with the design and development of an avionic platform for minisatellites, including differentiated features and characteristics at architecture level, but also with the usage of COTS components and agile processes and methods for development and production. The architecture intends to provide solutions to a diverse set of types and configurations of satellites and missions, from a subsystem perspective, units and life cycle with respective reliability expectation.
