Acronym: nodeSipher |
Main Objective: The main objectives of project nodeSipher are: 1. Set up a customized probe station suitable for both high frequency RF (up to 20 GHz) and optical characterization of devices combining RF and optical stages; 2. From experimental data, build a nonlinear model of the MZM with two inputs: the voltages applied to the phase shifters, and two outputs, the I and Q components of the modulated optical signals; 3. Use the nonlinear model of the MZM to implement nonlinear pre-distortion algorithms, one tailored for intensity modulated signals, and another suitable for amplitude and phase modulated signals; 4. Estimate the performance gains of the nonlinear pre-distortion algorithms for: a. IMDD modulation formats, such as PAM and DMT; b. Coherent modulation formats, such as QAM and OFDM; 5. Assess the gains provided by the nonlinear pre-distortion in realistic scenarios of: a. NGPON access networks carrying 2.5 Gb/s 4PAM and QPSK signals; b. Datacenter interconnections carrying up to 40 Gb/s signals using M-PAM and M-QAM. |
