About the position

This position focuses on research and development in ultra-low bitrate image coding using advanced generative AI techniques. The work involves studying state-of-the-art image coding methods and designing innovative coding architectures that combine learning-based codecs with generative models. The position also includes the development of task-aware semantic coding solutions optimized for machine vision and real-time applications. Activities include algorithm design, implementation, benchmarking, and experimental evaluation using modern AI frameworks and large-scale datasets. The work is expected to contribute to next-generation multimedia communication technologies through high-impact scientific publications and innovative coding solutions.

Your required profile

Any national, foreign and stateless candidate(s) holding a doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other related scientific area and a suitable scientific and professional curriculum may submit an application. In case the degree has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of 12th of October, and all formalities estab-lished therein must be fulfilled, by the selected candidate, until the date of signature of the contract.

Your current track record of scientific publications, and or project involvement, and student supervision complies with the Productivity Criteria in force at Instituto de Telecomunicações, verifiable from your provided CV.
