About the position By decision of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Telecommunications, taken at its meeting on September 23, 2024, the opening of an international selection competition for a PhD position was ap-proved to strengthen the competencies of the Networks and Services Group of the Institute of Tele-communications – Aveiro Pole, within the scope of the project CEECINSTLA/00034/2022 under an open-ended employment contract, overseen by Portuguese Labour Code, aiming at the performance of scientific research, specifically: • Conduct advanced research in mobile environments and develop innovative solutions for address-ing pressing Sustainable Development Goals challenges. • Secure external funding to support research activities. • Supervise graduate students and researchers. • Lead and manage research projects, ensuring timely delivery of objectives and milestones. • Secure competitive research funding by developing and submitting high-quality grant proposals. • Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at leading international conferences. • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including industry partners, academic institu-tions, and research organizations. • Mentor and supervise junior researchers and graduate students. We are looking for a motivated and experienced Postdoc or Scientist for a full-time position, to carry out high-quality research and development in network architecture or embedded systems. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of high-impact publications in reputable journals and confer-ences, international recognition of its activities, as well as experience as a principal researcher in secur-ing and leading competitive funding projects and supervising students. Topics involve one or more of the following areas: V2X, IoT, C-ITS, CCAM, smart cities, autonomous driving technologies, multi-technology communications, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Experience in securing exter-nal funding from government agencies, industry partners, or foundations and working on international projects in the areas mentioned above. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with interdisciplinary teams. The candidate will integrate a dynamic and forward-thinking team composed of senior scientists, researchers, and students. He/she is expected to bring own re-search ideas and skills to tackle ongoing R&D challenges, in close collaboration with our interdisciplinary team and with external scientific and industrial partners. IT’s Network Architectures and Embedded Systems groups at Aveiro have a wide set of internationally funded projects and publish in high quality scientific journals and high-quality conferences in Telecommunications and Computer Science and are seeking a researcher that can work for this goal, apply for competitive funding in the framework of projects or contracts, and supports our PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. |

Your required profile The competition is open to national, foreign, and stateless candidates who hold a PhD in Informatics En-gineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering or a related scientific field and have a scientific and pro-fessional curriculum that reveals a profile suitable for the activity to be developed. You have a profound knowledge of communications systems and experience in network architectures or embedded systems and exhibit strong expertise in one or more of the following areas: V2X, IoT, C-ITS, CCAM, smart cities, autonomous driving technologies, multi-technology communications, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. You have a good track record of publications of applied research in international high-impact journals and conferences with peer review in Communications Systems. You are methodical and also have a good degree of creativity, reflected in a diversity of experiences and ar-eas. Experience with participation in projects on wireless systems for future mobility or future wireless and mobile networks. Active preparation of proposals, and application for research funding opportuni-ties is a plus. Experience with undergraduate and graduate student supervision is also valued. You have a proficient level of comprehension, written and oral skills in English. You have experience and value working in an international and multi-cultural environment.
