Admission Requirements:
Research grants are intended:
- for students enrolled in a degree-conferring course to carry out R&D activities with the aim to consolidate their scientific training through the development of research work leading to the attainment of the respective academic degree or completion of the course (integrated or not in R&D projects).
- for students enrolled in courses that do not confer an academic degree but which are integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution and are developed in association or cooperation with one or several R&D units.

In what concerns the admission requirements for this research grant in particular: candidates must be enrolled in a master program in the areas of Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
Work Objectives:
This project aims to investigate algorithms and methods for processing and coding of visual information in industrial environments, integrated in remote surveillance and monitoring systems using specific hardware and wireless communications. The research work deals with industrial video content, acquired by a system with multiple cameras. The work plan includes research and development of computational methods for automatic identification of regions of interest in specific industrial case-studies and extraction of relevant features as part of a big data process within the context of industry 4.0. The research is focused on image and video processing algorithms, low-complexity machine learning approaches for visual identification and feature extraction of regions of interest and optimisation techniques for real-time image and video compression in hardware systems with limited resources.
