Summary:
A research position for 1 (one) Research Grant ("Bolsa de Licenciado") is open at Instituto de Telecomunicações, funded by FCT/MEC through national funds under the project EyeInTheSky- PCIF/SSI/0103/2018. The work plan consists of the research and implementation of a relay communication system based on VHF / UHF and LoRA to be applied on an UAV platform to support emergency communications and, simultaneously, provide fire scene images to ground and national combat agents. Other costs correspond to Social Security, work accidents insurance and update of grant value.

Admission Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in electronics & telecommunications engineering, telematics and computing, physics or equivalent with great-motivation and ability for teamwork. The candidate should show good background and experience in Ham Radio. The candidates must be enrolled in a MSc course.
Work Objectives:
Implementation of a communication system to support emergency entities in a firefight situation. Implementation and development of a VHF/UHF and LoRA repeater for transferring telemetry, meteorological data, and images (visible and IR). Implement a ground station to manage all the data provided by the previous communication system attached to an UAV. Implement a satellite communication service to populate emergency data for the National and District legal entities. Test the integrated system in a laboratory. System testing and validation in a real experiment.
Applicable legislation:
A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT, “Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações’ fellowships” and “Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação”, according to Law no. 40/2004, dated August 18 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), in its actual redaction, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P. Fellowship Regulation of Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia. Place of work:
The work will be developed at the premises of Instituto de Telecomunicações at the University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Dr. Miguel Bergano.
Duration:
12 months with the possibility of renewal. Start date: January 2021 or soon thereafter.
Monthly salary:
805.98€ according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ). The payment will be made by bank transfer.
