Creating and sharing knowledge for telecommunications

Research Position:

Title: Research Grant - BIM/Nº35- 26/04/2019 - CMU/ECE/0030/2017 (CONQUEST)
Funding Reference Number: BIM/Nº35- 26/04/2019 - CMU/ECE/0030/2017 (CONQUEST)
Summary: A research position for one Research Grant (“Bolsa de Investigação“) is opened at Instituto de Telecomunicações, in the scope of the Project CONQUEST, CMU/ECE/0030/2017, funded by the applicable financial framework (FCT/MCTES). The work for this position is in the area of Spectrum Sharing in 5G systems in Scenarios Using Mobile Small Cells.
Scientific Area: Wireless Communications
Group: Radio Systems – Lx
Admission Requirements: Master’s degree in informatics and telecommunication engineering. The successful candidate has sound prerequisites in wireless communication systems at master’s level and possesses strong wireless communications analytical, simulation and modelling skills. Mathematical skills on radio resource management, event-driven simulation and information theory are definitely an asset to the planned research, energy aspects involved in wireless/mobile communications, electronics design, as well as strong knowledge on C, C++, Java and MATLAB. It is relevant the skills in a set of radio programs for an interactive interface of a radio communication system (using less energy), developed in a technology called software defined radio (SDR) Candidates with the skills in GNURadio that allowed the implementation of these systems, together with the BladeRF service to communicate with UAV could be a major value to the project The skills in using Spectrum Sensing techniques to understand which protocol is used by the UAVs communications link.
Work Objectives: The purpose of this work is to first study spectrum sensing techniques, second study different types of spectrum sharing techniques, understand their faults and try to correct or change some. In order to be able to use spectrum sharing techniques in unused frequency zones (spectrum sensing) a study will be developed. The final objective is to test on small cells (UAV) and realize what impact it has on the communication systems.
Applicable legislation: A fellowship will be celebrated according to the regulations defined by FCT, “Regulation of Instituto de Telecomunicações’ fellowships” and ” Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação”, according to Law no. 40/2004, dated August 18 (Status of Scientific Research Fellow), as amended and republished by Decree-Law No.202/2012 of August 27, and as amended by Decree-Law No.233/2012 of October 29 and by Law No.12/2013 of January 29, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of July 9, and also by Fundação para Ciência e Tecnologia, I.P.
