Gabriel Fernandes, researcher from IT Coimbra won the 2nd prize in the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge 2010, in the PhD category. The first prize in the same category, won by a student from FCUP, was supervised by IT researcher Luis Antunes.
The Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge is an initiative promoted by Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS, with the objective of motivating and awarding ‘Research of Practical Utility’. The event was held on the 1st October at Círculo Universitário do Porto.
Carla dos Reis Medeiros received the URSI Portugal Research Prize 2010 for her work on “UHF RFID Reader Antennas for Self-confined Tag Detection”. The annual prize, sponsored by ANACOM, intends to reward the best research work in the field of radio communications, to promote creativity and scientific rigor in radio communications research in Portugal. The work was developed at Instituto de Telecomunicações Lisboa. The award was handed over by the president of ANACOM, José Amado da Silva, at the closing ceremony of the 4th Congress of URSI Portugal, held on September 23, 2010, Lisbon.
