Pedro R. M. Inácio, researcher at the Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) and professor at the University of Beira Interior (UBI), has been named a Distinguished Contributor by the IEEE Computer Society, joining the 2026 Class of honorees. The permanent distinction recognizes individuals whose sustained technical, professional, and service contributions have had a significant impact on the computing profession and the global computing community.
Awarded annually to fewer than 0.5% of the IEEE Computer Society's members, the Distinguished Contributor status acknowledges professionals whose work actively supports the Society's mission of advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. The distinction also recognizes a long-term commitment to applying technology responsibly, ethically, and in service of the public good.
Pedro Inácio was recognized for his enduring contributions to computing, the IEEE Computer Society, the profession, and the broader computing community. He joins a select group of professionals whose work advances scientific knowledge, addresses complex technological challenges, mentors future generations, fosters inclusive professional communities, and develops technologies that improve the way people live and work.
Announcing the 2026 Distinguished Contributor Class, George J. Proeller, President of the IEEE Computer Society Distinguished Contributor Recognition Committee, highlighted the significance of the award:

Reflecting on the recognition, Pedro Inácio expressed his gratitude:

At IT, Pedro Inácio leads the Network Applications and Services, at Covilhã (NAS-CV) research group. At the University of Beira Interior, he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in information assurance and cybersecurity and currently serves as Vice-Rector for Digital Strategy, Information Management and Human Resources, overseeing the University's Cybersecurity and Data Protection Office.
Pedro Inácio is also an IEEE Senior Member and serves as Senior Editor and Editorial Board Member of IEEE Access, contributing to the advancement of high-quality research in computing and information technologies.
