On 2-3 July 2026, the GENIUS consortium gathered at the Instituto de Telecomunicações in Aveiro, Portugal, for the project's Kick-Off Meeting, launching an ambitious European initiative that will accelerate the development of 6G-enabled connected and automated transportation and logistics.
Hosted over two days, the meeting brought together project partners to align on the project's vision, technical roadmap, implementation strategy, and key use cases. Participants also explored demonstrations of the baseline testbeds that will serve as the foundation for developing and validating the innovative technologies envisioned by GENIUS.
The project will address a broad spectrum of real-world transportation scenarios across road, air, maritime, and multimodal mobility, including UAV-assisted transport of medical samples, automated airport baggage handling, smart apron operations, maritime port logistics, and edge-assisted autonomous driving.
By combining 6G communications, Artificial Intelligence, edge computing, and cybersecurity, GENIUS aims to deliver a new generation of intelligent, secure, and sustainable mobility solutions to support the increasingly complex demands of future transportation ecosystems.
IT Contributes to Advanced 6G and AI Research
As a member of the GENIUS consortium, IT contributes its expertise in next-generation communication networks, Artificial Intelligence, and edge computing and autonomous mobility, supporting the project's vision of creating resilient and trustworthy 6G-enabled transport infrastructures.
Working alongside leading European research institutions, universities, and industry partners, IT will help advance the technologies that will underpin the next generation of connected and automated mobility, reinforcing its commitment to cutting-edge research in future communication networks.

The Kick-Off Meeting established the collaborative framework for the coming years, defining the project's technical priorities and fostering cooperation among partners from multiple disciplines.
Through the integration of innovative networking technologies, AI-powered intelligence, and robust cybersecurity mechanisms, GENIUS seeks to enable transportation and logistics systems that are not only more autonomous and efficient, but also safer, more resilient, and environmentally sustainable.
