Vicente Garção, a PhD candidate at Instituto Superior Técnico and one of our standout researchers, has taken an innovative path with his LAMPSY project, recently earning second place in the prestigious INOVA+ competition. He has also presented his work at the Epilepsy Foundation Shark Tank Award in the U.S. and was the winner of the Youth Factory Lisboa Entrepreneurship Awards. 

LAMPSY is a cutting-edge device disguised as a lamp, seamlessly integrating into the user’s daily environment. It detects epileptic seizures with exceptional accuracy, using video technology to issue real-time alerts. With a 99% accuracy rate, LAMPSY outperforms current solutions by detecting more seizures while reducing false alarms by a factor of three.

This groundbreaking project began as part of Vicente’s doctoral research at the Instituto de Telecomunicações, Instituto Superior Técnico, under the guidance of Hugo Silva, Ana Fred, Carla Bentes, and Joana Pinto, our Innovation and Entrepreneurship Manager.
