Marcos Mendes won the Best Research Paper Award for the EMEA at the 2024 ITS World Congress in Dubai, held from September 16 to 20.
The award-winning paper, titled "Real-time Object and Event Detection Service through Computer Vision and Edge Computing," was co-authored by Marcos Mendes (1st author), Gonçalo Perna, Pedro Rito, Duarte Raposo, and Susana Sargento.
The paper presents a groundbreaking approach to using computer vision to detect and track people and vehicles on roads, measure distances between them, monitor movements, and identify potential accident risks in real-time.
The 2024 ITS World Congress has made a lasting impact by showcasing the future of intelligent transportation systems.
