From September 9 to 12, the Quantum Communications group hosted a workshop and summer school on "Quantum Communications in Free Space" as part of the PTQCI – Portuguese Quantum Communication Infrastructure project. The event, held at the Instituto de Telecomunicações, Instituto Superior Técnico, and TagusPark IST Oeiras, has registered over one hundred participants.
The workshop and summer school were focused on quantum communications in free space, including satellite-to-earth quantum communications. The program covered new protocols and experimental work and featured contributions from both national and international experts, promoting knowledge exchange and fostering a unified perspective on this cutting-edge subject.

PTQCI is a consortium dedicated to developing and deploying quantum communications across Portugal, aligned with the EuroQCI – European Quantum Communications Network initiative, which aims to establish secure quantum communications throughout Europe in the coming years. The consortium includes a diverse range of participants: universities and research centers like Instituto de Telecomunicações, ISEL, and IST; national organizations such as GNS, IPQ, and FCCN; industrial entities like Deimos, Adyta, Omnidea, and Warpcom; and telecommunications companies including IP Telecom and Altice Labs.
