The Best Paper Award at the 14th International Symposium on Communication Systems, Networks and Digital Signal Processing (CSNDSP 2024), held in Rome, Italy, was awarded to the co-authors Joumana Kassam, Daniel Castanheira, Adão Silva, Rui Dinis, and Atílio Gameiro for their paper titled "Hybrid Equalization for mmWave Cell-Free Radio Stripes-based Systems." The paper was presented during the conference in July 2024.

Their work explores the potential of Cell-Free (CF) massive MIMO as a pivotal technology for future 6G networks. They proposed a novel hybrid analog-digital equalization algorithm, tailored specifically for wideband millimeter-wave frequencies. This innovative approach addresses the limitations of traditional CF networks by integrating radio stripes (RS) with CF systems, effectively overcoming challenges related to fronthaul connections and computational overhead. The result is a more efficient and scalable solution for future communication systems.

"We are thrilled to be the first to develop this method of hybrid analog-digital beamforming for CF RS-based systems at mmWave frequencies, as it has not been addressed in the literature yet," said Joumana Kassam, one of the co-authors.

Joumana Kassam is currently pursuing her PhD at Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) and the University of Aveiro (UA), under the supervision of Adão Silva and Daniel Castanheira, both affiliated with IT – UA. Rui Dinis is our researcher and professor at NOVA University, and Atílio Gameiro is also our researcher and professor at UA.
