Emanuel Marques won the 2023 Altice Innovation International Award (AIIA) in the "Academy" category.

Emanuel Marques, a doctoral student at the University of Coimbra's Faculty of Science and Technology, received a 25,000-euro prize for his groundbreaking work.

Under the supervision of our senior researcher André Mendes, from IT Coimbra, Marques is pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, focusing on "Simultaneous Inductive Power Transfer Systems With Fault Tolerance."

His research addresses the challenge of optimizing energy transfer in wireless charging systems for electric vehicles. Marques explains that the existing systems, commonly found in devices like smartphones, are hindered by the distance between the floor-installed transmitter and the vehicle's base-mounted receiver. To overcome this, he proposes a novel solution that utilizes the vehicle's wheel as an intermediary for energy transfer, ensuring consistent levels for all vehicle types.

The AIIA, launched in 2017 to promote and acknowledge entrepreneurial and technological talent, has recognized Marques for his innovative contributions.
